Signaling and Telecommunications - Sections of the Department
The department consists of the following sections:
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE SECTIONS RADIO SECTION: The section handles all matters concerning installation and maintenance of H.F, VHF radio, Public Address System (PAS) and Microwave communication equipment. EXCHANGE: This section is in charge of maintenance of all private automatic branch exchange (PABX) equipment and external line plants. SIGNAL SECTION: This section is concerned with the installation and maintenance of point and signal mechanisms, lever frames, level crossing lifting barriers etc. LINES AND TELEGRAPH: This section is responsible for the installation and maintenance of Pole route, block instruments, block telephones, battery charging and production of distilled water and electrolytes. TELECOMS SECTION: This section handles all matters concerning telegram messages either by ceptron machines, H.F radio or ICT facilities. It deals directly with NITEL and Private Telecommunication operators (PTO) on matters relating to bills and recharge cards for trunk telephone services enjoyed by authorized officers in NRC. WORKSHOP: The workshop is large and fully equipped to meet the needs of department for maintenance and repairs. The workshop consists of other units such as Radio/Television, Carpentry, drilling and fitting, welding, lever frame interlocking clock repair, blacksmith and the S&T impress store. There is smaller S&T W/Shops in all the districts to cater for their need. All the listed sections above exist also at district level.
